PROFESSOR WASEEM BARI

A Distinguished Physicist. A Thoughtful Observer of Life. A Keeper of Memories.

Welcome to the world of Professor Waseem Bari — an accomplished physicist, respected academic, researcher, and author whose life brings together scientific inquiry and a deep appreciation for human relationships.

About the Author

Professor Waseem Bari is a Professor of Physics at the University of Kashmir and presently serves as Director of its South Campus. With more than twenty-five years of teaching experience and over three decades of research experience, he has built a distinguished academic career grounded in scientific investigation, higher education, and institutional service.
An alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, Professor Bari earned his Bachelor of Science (Honours), Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Physics from AMU. His research interests lie primarily in high-energy nuclear physics, particularly relativistic heavy-ion collisions and the study of quark-gluon plasma.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to teaching, research, the guidance of research scholars, and academic administration. He has also served as Controller of Examinations and Registrar at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, undertaking responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom and laboratory.
His research journey has taken him to several European institutions, including CERN in Geneva, providing opportunities to engage with the wider scientific community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Professor Bari has a deep interest in human relationships, memory, and the enduring value of friendship. These interests inspired his memoir, The Man Who Still Walks Beside Me, a deeply personal tribute to Dr. Zamir Ahmed Bhat and the friendship that continues to shape his understanding of life.

The Man Who Still Walks Beside Me

What does it mean for a person to remain part of our lives even after they are gone?
In The Man Who Still Walks Beside Me, Professor Waseem Bari explores this question through a deeply personal account of his friendship with Dr. Zamir Ahmed Bhat. Beginning at Aligarh Muslim University, where an unexpected acquaintance gradually grew into an extraordinary bond, the memoir follows a friendship that endured across decades, distances, and changing circumstances.
Through intimate recollections, shared experiences, intellectual conversations, humour, and moments of profound emotion, the author brings Zamir’s personality into focus. His warmth, intelligence, generosity, and ability to connect with people emerge through the memories of those who knew and cared for him.
Yet the book extends beyond the story of two friends. It acknowledges the families, companions, and countless individuals who enriched their shared journey, creating a wider portrait of relationships built through affection, trust, and common experiences.
A particularly moving dimension of the memoir is Zamir’s courageous struggle with illness and the remarkable circle of care that surrounded him. These experiences illuminate the strength of human solidarity and the ways in which friendship becomes especially meaningful during life’s most difficult moments.
Ultimately, this is not simply a book about losing someone dear. It is a reflection on what remains: the conversations that continue in memory, the values passed on through example, and the gratitude that accompanies a life touched by genuine friendship.
With warmth and sincerity, Professor Bari invites readers to consider the people whose presence continues to guide them, even when they can no longer walk beside them in the ordinary sense.
